school.

{Navy blazer, lace singlet, tassel scarf, shoes: vintage. Leopard shorts, alexa bag: available in store soon.}

It was the perfect temperature yesterday. Everything seemed to glow in the warm afternoon sun yet there was a icy chill in the air when you sat in the shade, perfect weather to pull out my navy gold buttoned blazer. I decided that if i owned a school, this is what my uniform would look like. British inspired and all sorts of cute, with high waisted shorts, double breasted blazers, brogue-like shoes with a reasonable heel, teamed with cute as a button crochet socks, tasseled scarves and little briefcase inspired bags to boot! I don't really know what the boys would wear but who really cares, anyway? These are my newly acquired day time shoes, extremely comfortable and at a heart breaking price of only $15. I love them nearly as much as my blazer. I've had this good ol thing for years and i love how it always seems to balance out the clashing of different fabrics and prints that i so often throw together, in this case, lace, leopard and crochet :)

In other news, the 'AKIRA SKIRT' is finally available in store here. I want to thank you all for your wonderful feedback. This is only one from the books full of designs i have waiting and ready to go for gary pepper this year! I am also drawing the winner for our vintage YSL clutch giveaway in one weeks time, so make sure you have entered as many times as you can! I am dying to announce the winner as well as our very new giveaway that will be launched a day or two after, i think you guys will absolutely love it!

And just quickly, a big shout out to my beautiful friend, jacqueline. She recently completed her degree at UTS in fashion and textiles design and has already been accepted into L'Oreal Melbourne fashion festival! She'll be flying down in a few weeks time to showcase her amazing designs- with new nudes, tonal purples and soft pearlescent details, this collection is like no other, perfectly crafted and beautifully detailed. You can also see her in YEN magazine this month, as well as read a quick interview she did with Sportsgirl here. I think what i love the most is that jacq is the most modest, shy, down to earth girl who doesn't like to boast about things like this, and i couldn't be more proud of her. Without sounding too biased, i can tell you right now, this girl is gonna make it...

akira.

I mentioned in my previous post that i received a phone call at the start of the week letting me know that my 'order' was waiting and ready to go. What was it, you ask? After taking over 5 weeks to produce it seems quite surreal that it's finally here. Introducing, the 'AKIRA SKIRT', my very first design for gary pepper's ready to wear collection for 2010!

Aren't they perfect? Completely versatile and made from a cup full of pretty, a slight dash of sweet, a teaspoon of cute, a hint of feminine with a touch of sophistication, and three quarters love, the akira skirt flatters every body shape and will last season after season. I think a skirt like this is one of the main basics every girl should have in their wardrobe, so simple yet effective. I chose the name 'akira' as it means 'bright' or 'shining' in japanese. I liked the thought of every one of you radiating exuberance and elegance when you wore this, and also because it's unique, quirky and used as a common boys name, just like gary when she was first born, and pays tribute to my japanese heritage. Plus, it sounds really pretty and i like it :) It is available in three different colors, black, grey and a beautiful apricot silk, and I will be listing them on ebay tomorrow night, friday the 26th at 7pm at a starting price of only $12.00!

It seems that i'm quickly ticking things off my project list but adding more even quicker. I listed some things on gary pepper pieces the other day but they went within a couple of hours, literally! Am i listing everything too cheap or do you guys just actually love gary pepper that much? Either way, it's wonderful and over whelming and i love each and every one of you. These feathered shoulder pads will be hitting GPP tomorrow.

I've attached a strip of velcro so you have the choice of adding them to your favorite jacket, top or leotard and can easily remove them when you have to wash your garment, simple! I'm not sure whether to make colored or patterned ones so please let me know what you think, i'm open to all suggestions! I'm also busy making some amazing feathered necklaces that you all saw on the cover of our lookbook, and aim to have them up by the end of the weekend :)

whimsical.

I posted this first photo on my tumblr but struggled to stop at only one as i felt that i wasn't doing this amazing ready to wear collection from Topshop unique enough justice. With sheepskin rucksacks, bushy unkempt hair, cable knit thigh highs, animalistic head pieces and over sized antlers, this 'into the woods' inspired show sent my brain into overload. The beautifully whimsical styling made me want to watch Narnia and escape with Aslan into a woodland wonderland just one more time. Oh, and did i mention that their riding boots came with detachable covers equipped with cute as a button brown leather briefcases? It's a given, Topshop never ceases to disappoint.

This weekend i did a handful of things. I quickly went garage 'sale-ing', found an amazing hand beaded vintage scarf from the kindest old lady, stayed up late with an old friend, said goodbye to another, relaxed on the balcony and wiggled my toes, bought a kilo of m&m's and fell asleep on my bean bag, danced in a room full of fairy lights and fell over, twice. All in all, a very good weekend :)

Our new collection for febuary is now in store plus the 86 items that went missing two weeks ago. I have some jewelry i will be posting on gary pepper pieces, hopefully on wednesday, i'm just struggling to find the time to do so! I also received a phone call on friday to inform me that my 'order' was ready to be picked up after weeks of anticipation so i will be announcing those arrivals in just a few days! I've also just done a quick interview with 'walk of fashion' which you can read here and started my second blog on tumblr, which you can follow here. My tumblr blog is just purely random and i'm going to try and post something every day that inspires me, whether it be a photo i see, a quote from a friend or even a big blue sky. It'll be interesting to see in a few month time if i have a reoccurring pattern of things that inspire me, i've always been a sucker for open grass meadow shots and beautifully lit afternoons...

Sorry for the quick post tonight. It's way past my bedtime and i have nearly 100 more items to list tomorrow, in 37 degree heat it seems almost impossible! Here are some of my favourites this week.

{ Boots & jacket: vintage, tee: american apparel, jeans: camilla and marc, necklace: in gpp now}

It seems the weather here is still as confused as my feelings towards eggplant and ballet flat crocs? I went out for breakfast the other morning and due to the beautiful chill in the air, i decided to wear my beloved leopard print jacket which i so often neglect. By midday, it was so hot that i was feeling foolish and all kinds of regret. God, how i wish it was winter already! This is one of my favorite jackets because my friend pete borrows it and still looks fabulous in it even though he's a guy. We actually look exactly the same from head to toe when we wear this with black skinny legs, white tee, similar boots and skinny ankles. It's not often you can find a uni sex jacket that fits both genders so well. I think i'll be holding on to this one for years to come, and maybe my friend pete too... joking, pete :)

In other news, i finally made time to get my hair cut the other day! It's been about 7 months overdue and i seem to be experiencing post hair cut depression. I got about 3 inches taken off and didn't realize how attached i was until i got home and realized how short it really is, hence the extremely short plait in my photos. But it's ok, i needed a change and my hair was starting to despise me after curling it so much for the crazy amount of photos i took for gary pepper's new stock. In saying that, I have nearly 200 items being listed tomorrow and tuesday night (finally!) and about another 200 items that i brought back from the south coast that i need to photograph too. Ah, it seems like things just keep getting crazier around here and with our new stock, new giveaways and new promotions coming in the next two weeks, it looks like it's going to get even worse! Is it wrong that i'm secretly really excited?

Here is the new illustration chrissy did for gary pepper, isn't it amazing? I seem to be falling in love with her more every day.

arrival.

IT'S HERE, IT'S HERE, IT'S FINALLY HEREEEE!

As you all know, i have been talking about some mini projects i have been working on for the past couple of weeks, well, this one has been over two months in the making but now i can finally reveal to you what exactly it is! After a long two weeks of editing, we have cut, pasted, and pain painstakingly narrowed over 300 photos down to a mere 12 sheet spread to finally bring to you, into the woods, gary pepper's very first lookbook for 2010! Click here to view :)

I cannot even describe the immense joy i am feeling from seeing the finished product as it is exactly what i envisioned my lookbook to be, if not more. Originally, i had planned to have a 'little red riding hood' theme and incorporate red pieces into every shot but that concept went out the window when i realized the color palette looked a little bland and repetitive. We spent the day shooting in this beautiful park that had a natural whimsical feel about it and only had time to get through half of the outfits i had planned before the afternoon thunderstorm set in and the heavy rain began. My model and dear friend, charlotte, was an absolute dream to work with and looked stunning in every outfit i chose for her, how many girls can pull of high waisted cheetah pants and red feathered eyelashes? These are only a few of the photos i have, you can see over 35 'behind the scenes' photos on our gpv facebook page here.

This post is taking so much longer to write as my hands are literally shaking, and i can assure you, there is no exaggerating at all! It could also be from the wonderful news i heard only hours ago from one of our national magazines, that it has been confirmed as of this morning, that gary pepper will be running in one of their march issues! Ah! It just makes a lifetime of ideas, years of research and months of planning all worth while :)

I would also like to say a big thank you to everyone who made this lookbook possible: pete thomas, genevieve tyrrell, charlotte vermeesch & eli rae. You are all really, one of a kind.

alexa.

I cannot believe how excited i got when i finally saw some pictures of alexa chung's collection for madewell from new york fashion week today. Well actually, that's a lie, i can believe it! I have been impatiently waiting to see it since it was announced last year that she would be collaborating with Madewell, a brand nearly as chic as alexa herself, and was not at all disappointed with what i have seen. The mixture of school prep with nudes, frills, peter pan collars meets british rock star is in every way desirable and something i would happily wear every day of the week. This is by far one of my favorite collaborations i have ever seen and cannot wait to get my hands on some of her beautiful coats for winter, she'll be giving kate moss a run for her money...

Oh alexa, why do you always get it so right!?
