J A P A N .

Sometimes I really am taken aback by how lovely and thoughtful you all are. I've been receiving some extremely kind emails from readers who are worried I have family in Japan after the devastating earthquake and tsunami. One thing you all probably don't know about me is my sister and I are adopted and have Australian parents, so we've grown up in Australia our entire lives. I get asked quite a lot so if any of you are wondering I am half South Korean, half Japanese, which I've heard is a weird mix? I've always been obsessed with Japan ever since I can remember and funnily enough only found out in high school that my biological father was actually Japanese. Probably explains a lot then! Regardless if I have family in Japan or not, what has happened to Japan is truly upsetting and equally devastating and a part of me feels extremely connected to the people there. I've never felt more myself when I visited Japan in 2009 and shortly after was when I started Gary Pepper Vintage, so in many ways I owe a lot to their beautiful country and the confidence I found there.

When out for lunch we were given these cute little notes with different hand made origami attached to each one. I have already donated but was so moved by the time the owners of this cafe had taken to make each one of these that I thought I would share it with you.

Please show your support and donate to the Japanese Relief here.

  3. The reason why some people think Korean/Japanese mix is weird because of the Korean history. During the early 1900's up until the end of WWII, Korea was under the rule of Japan and because of that, Koreans (especially the older generation) still have a lot of animosity towards the Japanese.

  10. It is really challenging to witness this natural and nuclear disaster — but there are some things we can do. I’ve written a post here trying to get people to support the efforts to aid the people of Japan: http://blog.lookuppage.com/2011/03/do-advertisements-on-mobile-apps-improve-your-reputation.html

  11. It is truly sad and heartwrenching about the devestation that hit Japan. It seemed as if the Japanese never got a break from nature, first the earthquake, then the tsunami. I'm glad that we have all been able to show our support and donate to those who just want to have back what we all tend to take for granted.

P.S. Korean + Japanese makes a beautiful combination, not weird at all :)

  20. I just went to Japan in December 2010 and was so shocked to hear about the earthquake+tsunami. I've donated as well, but I wanted to do more and that's when I decided that I'm going to donate 50% of any sale I make on my etsy shop to the Japan relief. I know that the little things we do will make a difference for those in need :)

  21. I felt really really sad when I heard of the shocking news and still do. It's really upsetting to know that innocent children, women and men have to go through all that bad happenings.
We can only hope that they recover fast, mentally and physically. I wish them everything beautiful in the world.
It's great that you remind people of the unfair events of life.
    All the best,
    Emily

  22. I was living in Japan when it all happened but now I evacuated to America. My heart was completely touched by all of the Japanese people. They do have a place in my heart and in my prayers. I can't stop thinking about what happened and the little note that you posted a picture of is great. I really hope a lot pf epople get together and help them because they are honorable, polite people.

  33. Sargent Pepper in the baccckkgrounddd. Those handouts are cute so heartwarming!

My thoughts also go out to those in Japan. My best friend is devastated with the news because she was scheduled to leave for Japan on her exchange program at the end of this month. unfortunately with the earthquake, tsunami and now nuclear complications her uni is reconsidering the program.

What happen there didn't just affect Japan, but the whole world. :(
