On Friday i had the pleasure of meeting up with my long term online pen pal Micaela. She's the lovely lady you'll often hear me thanking in my press posts and the (very young, might i add) editor of Ebay Magazine. After months of countless emails we finally took some time out of our busy schedules to meet up for some afternoon tea. She took me to this amazing high tea place in The Rocks called 'The Observatory' where we stuffed ourselves silly with tiny little sandwiches, sickly sweet sugar and gossiped away for hours whilst sipping on delicious melon tea. Believe it or not but this was the first time we had properly met in person and by the end of the day i couldn't believe how much we had in common. I have no idea how both of our bodies manage to run off purely just sugar but i'm so glad i'm not the only one anymore!

It's only natural being in the fashion industry that i admire beautiful models but there's something i find so much more fascinating about the 'behind the scenes' kinds of people. The business minded and brains behind something that makes it what it is, each with their own story about how they made it in the industry and the empires they're building, and it's those people i usually get along with the most. I suppose it's because i can relate to what they're talking about 99% of the time and like anyone would, i find it extremely inspiring. I've heard that sometimes it comes down to the right place at the right time, other times it doesn't, but 100% of the time it's purely just hard work.

"People often ask why i think my store has been so 'successful' and, to be honest, if someone knew the answer i wish they would tell me too! There's no secret or luck when it comes to owning a successful business, you have to make it happen yourself. Hard work, determination and a clear objective is the key - so i mean it when i say that if i can do it, anybody can."

A few (somewhat strange for me to read again) sentences from my column and a tribute to the extremely inspiring Micaela, who after all, is the reason why i am lucky enough to be able to share my thoughts with all of you in the Ebay magazine. So Micaela, this is for you. I look forward to many more tea filled afternoons and maybe a little less parking tickets :)

PS. My next collection is finished and scheduled to be in store in the just a few days! Stay tuned for a sneak peek here. I think you guys will like it :)

  8. the secret is having connections to the magazine industry that give you exorbitant amounts of publicity.

  10. haha yes it's sad that is how the fashion industry works but seeing as i have no connections i can't really take advantage of that, and not that i would any way.

i am not one of those people who would ask for anything and i have been very blessed to have as much media coverage as i have had without having to ask anyone for it. even i think it's crazy so i don't expect everyone to understand it either.

  11. This is lovely thank you so much.
It was a great day minus the parking ticket.

And just to clarify we only became friends after I had done the interview for the magazine.
I would never give coverage to a business or product that I don't believe in.

And thanks for all the sweet comments about my ring, pretty but very impractical.

  16. good on you Nicole. You obviously work extremely hard. I also have a little vintage store online but I would consider mine more of a hobby since I study full time and just do not have the time to put the amount of work into that is needed to make it huuge like yours.

Having experienced it myself I cannot understand how you manage to do everything you do! You've clearly worked very very hard to get to where you are are deserve all of the wonderful publicity that you get! I love to see all of the lovely things that you get up to each week and clearly everyone else does too, so keep doing what you do. :)

  22. It's so rejuvenating to hear you say that. Sometimes it's doubtful to me as well: why am I not rewarded? Why somebody worked so little and achieved it (not you, I'm just saying so you see the picture). I mean everybody feels exhausted and some times what they need is a little nudge. Thanks Nicole, that was a great push.

  31. Wow, that place is so gorgeous! And you guys have such amazing style :]

I think that your success comes from being such a hard worker, and your creativity and ability to see the potential in things that others might not... Also chance, perhaps. Sometimes I go thrifting and see young girls leaving the store with bags and bags of stuff, and I know, I just missed the vintage boat! Other times I go out shopping and come back with carts and carts of unbelievable goodies. Timing is pretty important.
