What a crazy week. I've been busy sourcing new stock for the store and decided to go three hours up the coast to explore new vintage. It was beautifully relaxing to spend some time to myself, reflect on my work and get my priorities in order, i also think i now know every single word to 'The XX' entire album (yes, i'm that crazy girl you can't help but laugh at because she's singing in the car but you can't hear what she's singing). I do my best thinking when i'm in the car but usually for my own safety and people driving with me it's better if i'm in the passenger seat as i'm always constantly day dreaming and not paying enough attention to the road. When i returned i had received some pretty wonderful emails and i thought i would share with you all the lovely places GPV has been featured this week.
1. A feature on the official Jeffrey Campbell blog with one of the photos i shot the other day in my new JC wedges. I honestly sent these photos in just to show how much i adored them and could never have imagined they would appear on their blog the very next morning! I'm now in talks with JC all the way from the US and will be posting new information on when and how you can buy his amazing shoes in Australia. Apparently, they love us here in Australia! More to be announced soon...
2. A feature on the Need Supply Co blog. When Ty from Jeffrey Campbell told me they had forwarded my email to Need Supply Co i didn't think anything of it... until a customer told me on twitter they had not only posted my photo but my entire email i had sent! I won't lie, it was a little awkward and i started to cringe as i started to read my own email that was now available on such a large public domain. This was the very first email of it's kind i had sent so i was worried people would think i was some self indulgent girl who writes crazy fan emails, but then i remembered why i wrote this email in the first place. I really meant every word i wrote and so it doesn't matter what anybody else thinks. I'm happy, happier with my shoes and even happier that i've been featured on such amazing blogs :)
3. A double spread interview with Blitz Magazine. This magazine is published by UNSW (The university of NSW) and is available to thousands of students as it's one of the biggest universities in Sydney. I'm yet to get my hands on a copy but have heard amazing feedback from a few of my customers who actually attend UNSW and couldn't be happier people are slowly starting to recognize the store. A big thank you to my friend, Aimee, who kindly suggested Gary Pepper Vintage for the magazine.
4. A feature on the Pacsun website. Pacsun really have been incredibly kind to my store. First they chose myself to be one of 9 fashion bloggers on their 'Spring break contest' last month, sent me a beautiful care package with some goodies (i'm yet to do an outfit post with their super cute dress), and now featured one of my photos for their online style board which helps you to incorporate lace pieces. It's a photo i used for my Ebay listings so you could imagine how odd it feels to see those kinds of photos being used online!
5. A feature on Weardrobe.com for their new spring perfectly pastoral look contest. It's so strange to receive an automated email from weadrobe that lets all of their members know about their new monthly contest and seeing one of my photos as the theme. It took me about 20 seconds to actually realize it was one of my photos and even longer to notice the new banner on the top of their home page! I still need to show Luke so he can know how much i, and others, appreciate his beautiful photos. Also, did anyone else notice the beautiful Sam from Twin Cat Vintage on the front feature page? Lovin' her new purchases from Vietnam!
I also just finished interviews for a fashion magazine in Spain, a new fashion & beauty magazine launching in Australia and also a new online magazine! I'm still not used to answering questions about myself and still get stuck with the 'describe your personal style' as i think mine is just all over the place! A big thank you to Ty from Jeffrey Campbell, Chris from Need Supply Co, Camilla from Blitz magazine, Akiko from Pacsun and Weardrobe.com for not only featuring myself but also my store and providing links back to Gary Pepper Vintage. I can only hope that one day i can return the favor...
Before you go, I really want you all to know how much i try to avoid posts like this now. I seem to be getting more worried by the day that my blog is starting to turn into this self indulgent, boastful blog and i'm coming across completely conceded. You would think this much attention would bring me happiness but deep down i'm actually more worried than anything. With media attention comes new customers to the store which means more bids on my items and more reason for customers to try and return something. My fears were confirmed when i received an anonymous email last night saying they love my style and read my blog and thought i was a 'pretty genuine person' but then accused me of bidding on my own items because my prices were so high! I want you all to know that i start my listings so low at $12.00 because i would honestly be happy with just that, i don't ask girls to spend so much money for my items and i'm just as shocked as you are by how much people are willing to pay for my things. But I suppose it's just something i'm going to have to learn how to cope with. Like they say, you can't win them all...

Nicole, if you can get JC stocked in Australia I will love you forever and ever! It still baffles me that they don't have any stockists over here... such a huge market gap that they could fill!
ReplyDeleteAlso, thank you so much for the link to my blog, it's very lovely of you and you look absolutely stunning on the weardrobe banner! I was stoked to see myself on the front page there and to be sharing it with you is fantastic.. go team Aussie!!
Hey, I actually go to unsw, that's amazing! So inspiring.
ReplyDelete:)
There is a quote that I really like which is "If you don't have critics then you probably don't have success" People are going to try to break you no matter what, but stay strong! You have so many supporters and they mean much much more!
ReplyDeleteyou look absolutely amazing in all of these!!! congrats
ReplyDeleteYour just all over the place aren't you. Congrats, you deserve it. Your blog and tastes in fashion are awesome.

About the XX, I was the same person a couple of months ago. I couldn't stop listening to it. And great thing with all the features, you deserve it!
ReplyDeletei think if anyone actually read your blog, they would know that those accusations are unfounded! It hurts when people say things like that, but trust me, i read many blogs and you are by far one of the most authentic people out there.
ReplyDeletebtw, congrats on all of your features. you truly deserve it.
as a side note, i LOVE the xx, too!
:)
congrats on all the features love! only more to come ;)
ReplyDeletexoxo
What a retarded email? How can that be possible!? With all this publicity and all those accounts and they seriously think you're ivolved in the bidding process?
ReplyDeletePeople these days.
Well done Nicole, I say it like every second post, but I am just so amazed at how well GPV has gone. I am so blessed to have watched your business grow.
Congratulations on the features, you deserve it :) Seriously who would email you saying that?! That's absolutely bonkers. Don't worry, you're AUTHENTIC for sure! Lots of love xx
ReplyDeleteYou know what's crazy is that I am from the same town as Need Supply and shopped there since before they were even called Need Supply (but Blue or something like that) but had since moved away. I had no idea they had a blog- -they certainly seem to have made central va a lot more fashionable since I was in high school...
ReplyDeleteSo lovely they all can acknowledge you for the creative being that you are.
ReplyDeleteI like ALL the clothes that you sell on ebay but unfortunately cannot afford any of them by the time I choose one that I particularly like (I'm a mother of 4 and 1st year uni student) but I like to have a squiz just the same hoping one day that I can get lucky. Good luck with it all just the same, I may not be able to afford it but I rooting for ya!!
I think you are wonderful and you should be proud of the attention you are getting, you deserve it. Don't let people bring you down for your success.
ReplyDeleteTake care,
Jessica Sue
YAY on the JC progress - do let us know when and where and the know of where to get them in Aus - I do do do want them so bad :)
ReplyDeleteDon't worry about the email - people are rude at times. Yes your clothes may be high but it's because you have such a huge customer base that want your amazing stuff :) I always find something I love in every collection you realize and not once had it came across my mind that you were upping the price. At the same time you can't please everyone - just look at how many people are your fb fans, look at how many people have bid on your clothes, look at how many people give you positive feedback and at how many people check your blog. I'm sure you have a larger group of people who love you and support you then those who don't.
Keep up the amazing work - I'm so jealous of your work - I wish I could do such :)
xxxx
ooooh I love JC!
ReplyDeletealso, well done on all the publicity and features :)
xx
oh thank you all for the beautiful inspiring comments. i really didn't expect anyone to write such encouraging words so thank you. i'm learning not to bother with people who don't like the store or people who copy it so easily so it's been a learning curve and i'm better for it now :)
ReplyDeletethank you lovelies, i really have the mose supportive readers!
congrats on all the success. I've already emailed you to tell you how much I love your style, and I guess I'm definitely not the only one!!! <3

ReplyDeleteso great that you're getting lots of press! it will surely keep people coming into your shop! i think you should ignore all the negative comments by the way. don't let anonymous people on the interweb put you down. debbie downers are undeniably everywhere....
ReplyDeleteHello Dasein!
I definitely don't see you as boastful in any way!! You seem so genuine! At least through your blog posts, hehe. Just keep up the hard work, girl!
ReplyDeleteCongrats :)
ReplyDeleteAww, don't feel down. People choose the stupidest things to hate on. I love your store (although i can't always afford your lovely clothes) and you are without a doubt one of the kindest and most personable (and genuine ^^ ) people I have dealt with, and I am so so glad that you are doing so well. It's really quite inspiring to see someone doing something they love and making a success of themselves - it gives hope to the rest of us :)
ReplyDeleteall the very best! xx
congrats to all the features! i just found your blog through lookbook and really love it!
